SAFETY

SAFETY: THE MOST IMPORTANT TOPIC YOU WILL EVER STUDY

OUR VIEW OF SAFETY

The topic of safety when working on the design, making and testing of guns and ammunition is such a broad subject that it is impossible to create a succinct statement covering all types of safety concerns, much less a list of all the discrete procedures which must be deployed to prevent personal injury and property damage. As with all the other matters addressed by this website, the development of effective safety procedures must be viewed as an endless evolution. All operations can be made safer, but none should ever be called safe; safety measures can and must be continuously improved.

Our safety notices are organized by topics, and of necessity they address particular areas of concern. But do not be lulled into thinking of safety in terms of a certain number of separately identifiable subjects. To avoid harm, you must examine everything you do and see your safety as part of a whole network of interconnected factors. Most of all, you must constantly ask yourself this question: If the tools and materials with which I am working were to do something unexpected right now, what would happen to me? If you conclude that you would be hurt, you must change your operations by implementing better safety measures.
